Aries Super Blood Moon Eclipse: The Big Red Reset Button

Perth: 28th Sept 10:50am; Melbourne: 28th Sept 12:50am; NY: 27th Sept 10:50pm
LA: 27th Sept 7:50pm; GMT: 28th Sept 3:50am

Well this is a fun combination in the sky. A super moon with the moon close to its perigee (see the last full moon), so closer to the Earth than normal. It's the fourth and final eclipse of the lunar tetrad (4 lunar eclipses in a row, 6 lunar months apart) and, as if all of that's not enough, it will be turning a spectacular blood red for those lucky enough to witness the eclipse.

In the northern hemisphere this is the harvest moon (though Neil Young won't be in the mix if that's what you're listening for). In the southern hemisphere it's the first moon of the spring. For both it's a celebration of the equinox a few days ago.

Astrologically we're in the midst of Mercury Retrograde, a time when the trickster is messing with our heads, words, plans and devices. Luna Tuna's only advice on this one: embrace, embrace, embrace. What would life be if the gods didn't come along and ruffle your hair and tie your shoe laces together every once in a while? What I've found personally: My messed around plans are working out better by far than the ones I'd mapped out.

Saturn has moved on from the depth of the Scorpion's lair and out into the open in Sagittarius. Phew. That was one hell of a 3-years. What will come with Father Time turning his steely focus to your dreams, goals and truth in Sag? I guess we wait and see.

It feels perfect that this red moon is in Aries. It really does feel like a big red reset button in the sky. Take this opportunity to really let the past die, the future be unknown, and this moment to be truly rich with life and potency. I know Science rules these days, lord knows to say any different risks being stoned in the streets, but there's a whole lot of magic around too. Second chances abound in our perpetually resetting Universe, so take them.

I hope you get the chance to listen to the mix under the super blood full moon eclipse. The flavour is fun, fresh and a celebration of new days and new ways.

Pisces Full (Super) Moon: Deeper Still

Perth: 30th August 2:35am; Melbourne: 30th August 4:35am NY: 29th August 2:35pm
LA: 29th August 11:35am; GMT: 29th August 7:35pm

Take a deep breath... and now get ready to dive down into your inner world for this powerful full moon in Pisces.

The moon is near its perigee, its closest point to Earth, which makes this a super moon. The careful observer might notice that it's a little larger than normal in the night sky. And it feels larger than normal in the inner sky because... well, firstly it's in Pisces, the Luna Tuna's home moon of the two fish swimming in opposite directions. Ruled by Neptune, Pisces is the un-naming of the named in the Taoist sense. It's the realisation that although I have my own identity, come from a country and a family and have many things that make me 'me', I am also none of those things. Although it feels like I am the wave, I am in fact the ocean.

If that's not Neptunian enough for you, King Neptune himself is only 2 degrees away from this full moon. When you're staring at that moon, although you won't realise it, you'll be seeing Neptune too.

On the other side of the sky is Jupiter and the Sun in Virgo giving this moon just the kind of anchor we need. Deep sea diving is ill advised without a boat to come back to.

And so, conditions are perfect for some introspection this full moon. Especially with Venus, Pluto, Neptune, Chiron and Uranus all retrograde.

Here's what I find fascinating about this Pisces full moon: it's the culmination of the Leo new moon a few weeks ago that asked of us to play, enjoy and be creative. Leo, ruled by the sun, was an exploration of our identity, the things that make us unique and special. And now here we are with Neptune in charge, the deep felt understanding, beyond logic and reason, that we are one.

It points to the great paradox of knowing myself as a single, unique entity and also understanding this is not the case. There's something greater than me at play, forces that I may never comprehend that affect my life in very real and profound ways.

Where is this stream of thought going? Back to the sea of course, as all streams eventually must. This moon is about faith: a word much maligned in this scientific age where we imagine ourselves to have all the answers. It's about faith, that deep down in my essence I know who I am and where I'm going, no matter how it appears to others (or even myself) on the outside. Faith that Source is always there to welcome me home after long journeys into foolish, complicated thoughts. Faith that the vision that I have for myself is real, if not yet realised.

And faith that I am being guided through this life, and I can choose to listen or choose to ignore it. The guidance is there none-the-less. And this isn't just for those who believe in angels. Trust in whatever it is that doesn't give you the heeby-jeebies, whether that be gut instinct, inner knowing, Source, God, Allah, the Universe, the Force... whatever is is, listen to it.

This moon feels like it truly is a gift. A timeout from the world to dive deep into the eternal internal, beyond the stormy seas on the surface, and feel yourself at your core, at your essence. Who knows what sunken treasures you might find deep down on the ocean floor.

The mix is a sequel to Us and the Ocean. A musical sandwich with the Scruff bakery providing the bread. If you get on board it'll take you where you need to go.

Aquarius Full Moon: Small Steps, Giant Leaps

Perth: 31st July 6:42pm; Melbourne: 31st July 8:42pm; NY: 31st July 6:42am
LA: 31st July 3:42am; GMT: 31st July 11:42am

The Cancer new moon a couple of weeks ago has culminated in this Aquarius full moon tonight. The emotional waters of the crab meet the freedom and detachment of Aquarius, the water bearer. With this in mind, what better place to take the moon mix this full moon but to the moon itself.

It's truly fascinating that only a little over half a century after the Wright Brothers got off the ground, we could actually set foot on the moon. Or... was it all an elaborate hoax dreamed up in a studio? I don't think so, but if so, that's an even wilder achievement of human imagination!

There's plenty of action going on in the sky right now. Saturn is about to go direct and leave Scorpio for good... or at least for the next 29 years. A little more focus available, long term goals back on track, the lessons from the last 2.5 years learned and locked in. Phew.

Venus retrograde. Watch for the return of the past, perhaps some reconnections, a look at current relationships and where they're at, maybe a chance to give some of that outward facing love back to yourself.

And then the Aquarius full moon itself, a blue moon as it falls just within July. We're one big, not-necessarily-happy, family the human race and we're all in it together. That collective mind of ours is capable of incredible things (see picture above), but while we stare at the sky let's not forget what's in the gutters. One clear mind can do wonders for mankind.

As for Tunakind, you may be able to see in Neil's space-helmet-reflection the truth of the situation, there was a fish on the moon long before people arrived. A hoax you say? I think not. Press play and hear the proof.

This just in - another layer of the moon revealed. Aquarius is ruled by Saturn and Uranus. Saturn is the rules, the way things are, the old way. Uranus is the 'fuck-it' attitude, the rebel, the new. Which of these will win out over these days/weeks? The old way because that's what you've done for a while now? Or the scary new path of simply saying 'fuck it' and leaving all that behind in search of something that serves you better?

We will see, but I know what the Tuna would do...

Cancer New Moon: Our Nature to Nurture

(Cancer the crab has gone back into the rocks and hidden away, therefore the Cancer new moon is not available right now.)

Perth: 16th July 9:24am; Melbourne: 16th July 11:24am; NY: 15th July 9:24pm
LA: 15th July 6:24pm; GMT: 16th July 2:24am

It's an emotional time for The Luna Tuna today, and why wouldn't it be with the new moon in Cancer, trine Chiron in Pisces. The fluids are in charge today and letting us know that we are sensitive, fragile creatures, all of us defying enormous odds just to be here, all of us knowing that we're in this big soup together, 'til death do us part.

It's a time for reflection, a time to look back and ponder the many cycles we've seen pass in order to get to where we are. Two weeks ago we pondered the longer journey of life, and now we sit with the ever-changing tides from moment to moment. A chance to look at our state of mind, body, soul and be gentle with ourselves. Ask yourself this question: is there a way I could nurture myself better in life, moment to moment? Have I mastered the art of being my own caregiver?

Since humans decided to stand up on 2 feet many moons ago we've had a unique situation amongst the other mammals we share the planet with. By standing up our brains got bigger and the birth canal got smaller, which caused one very serious consequence for us all: we're all born preposterously premature. Without a great deal of help from our mother, and subsequently the rest of our family/clan, we are doomed.

What does it all mean? It means that we all know in our blood what it is to be needy. We have all experienced it first hand and we take that with us through life. With the experience of being nurtured, however, also comes the instinct to nurture, and that's where Cancer's great gift lies, so long as the crab-claws of protection can be relaxed to allow people into its world. We're talking here about love, support and care for people around us.

Deeper still, we're talking about love, support and care for ourselves. Giving yourself what you need to not just survive but thrive in this world: whether that is eating better foods, taking in less of the poisons of life, or just thinking kinder thoughts towards yourself. So there's the goal for this month and something to ponder for this new moon.

It's also an emotional time because this is the final instalment of the 12 moon mixes that make up the full zodiac. It started with Leo 6 months ago, and now we've taken the full tour of the stars. It's been one incredible ride and I thank you for coming along for the journey. I would recommend following the cycles of the moon to anyone who had the inkling to do so: it's a chance to wander through the collective psyche and there's no telling what you might find on that voyage.

I'll still be making mixes just for the fun(k) of it, so stay tuna'd in moons to come.

Oh, and a special mention to the New Horizon space craft making it all the way to Pluto 2 days ago. It doesn't have much to do with the Cancer New Moon, but I just think it's amazing that we have sent something into space as far as Pluto. And props to Pluto for proving itself to be the biggest and baddest of the Dwarf Planets. I think he deserves an upgrade to planet again, but even if that doesn't happen, to say he's any less of a planet than the rest is to say that Tyrion Lannister is less man than Joffrey... it's just not true.

Capricorn Full Moon: Cronos' Logic

Perth: 2nd July 10:19am; Melbourne: 2nd July 12:19pm; NY: 1st July 10:19pm
LA: 1st July 7:19pm; GMT: 3:19am

Astrology really is a fascinating area to study. Within it are many mini-themes for you to wrap your head around, seeds of wisdom that, under the right conditions, might take hold and grow and perhaps one day bare fruit.

One of the gems in there is the relationship between Capricorn and Cancer: opposites of the zodiac creating the vertical line of the cardinal cross. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, father time, who takes approximately 29 years to traverse the zodiac. Cancer is ruled by the moon, the mother, who takes 29 days.

Whilst Cancer tends to encompass the ever-changing emotional tides of life, Capricorn deals with the longer journey. It's where we look up ahead at what's coming, plan for it, get prepared, and look behind at what has transpired, learn our lessons, try to do better next time.

The world has changed from when we needed to plan for the long hard winters, making sure we had enough crops to survive. Now, in the modern world, we don't even have seasons for our fruit and vegetables in the supermarket, they come to us all year round. If we want something we can throw a credit card at it and have it, deal with the consequences later.

As gratification gets closer and closer to being instantaneous we might think that Father Time's day is done, the old man has nothing left to teach us... But old Cronos didn't get the job without being fully qualified. Consequences to overdoing the now at the expense of the future are as relevant today as they ever were in any time.

As the moon waxes into fullness it might be a good time to ponder how far you've come on your journey through life, it might give you an indication of where you're going. Not just tomorrow and next week, but in the months and years to come that will shape your life on this planet.

Planning got a bit of a bad wrap over the last few decades, and the Luna Tuna would never want the LunaTunatics out there to stop being present and available to the moment at hand. Let's pass this one over to Yoda for the wisdom: 'Be mindful of the future, but not at the expense of the present'.

So there's the task at hand for this full moon. Understand where you are on the grand voyage of discovery that is your life whilst remaining present, alert and aware.... now, GO!

We're slowing down the tunes for this purpose, getting you into a nice rhythm so that you might feel the cycles within the cycles. Strap yourself in, things are about to get celestial.

Gemini New Moon: Being Mindful

Perth: 16th June 10:05pm; Melbourne: 17th June 12:05am; NY: 16th June 10:05am
LA: 16th June 7:05am; GMT: 16th June 3:05pm

It's hard work having a mind. Minds have a way of wandering off when you need them to focus and focusing intensely when you need them to wander off.

It may seem to be a trivial issue, but if you think about it (excusing the pun), where your mind goes creates your entire world. Slowly over time you bring your thoughts into your reality, which is why getting to know your mind and how to use it is one of the most important goals of any person's life.

The greek god associated with the mind is Hermes (aka Mercury) who, with his winged helmet and sandals, was able to go the the heights of Mount Olympus and the depths of the underworld. He was a messenger, a traveller and a trickster and certainly one of the most intriguing of all the greek gods.

He rules the sign of Gemini where we have our new moon today. Mars is also nearby which feels like a need to focus all that mental energy, but a pull to be distracted by all the possible places the mind could be right now. Mercury is the fastest moving planet in the solar system, how do we slow down our own internal Mercury to make good decisions and keep our mind where it needs to be, not seduced by the future or slipping into the past?

That's up to you. Maybe it's meditation and body movement, maybe it's chatting with friends and making sense of life, maybe it's being alone and shutting down the external voices. It's your mind, only you know.

It's also a special moment for The Luna Tuna as there is a guest selector on the mix today. Long time friend and soul/funk aficionado, Mr Ian Collins (aka Noles aka Holmes), has joined in the mix today as a celebration of the Gemini twins.

Check them out now - the funk soul brothers.

Sagittarius Full Moon: Get a Move On

Perth: 3rd June 12:19am; Melbourne: 3rd June 2:19am NY: 2nd June 12:19pm
LA: 2nd June 9:19am; GMT: 2nd June 9:19am

A Sagittarius full moon, we'd be thinking about uplifting good times, finding meaning, freedom, energy to burn, on the great adventure of life, right..?

Well, not exactly for this full moon. Mercury is doing its moonwalk having now just passed by the sun, Saturn also retrograding out of Sagittarius and the full moon squaring Neptune in Pisces. The clouds of illusion and busy chattering minds are in the way of all that light, making the misery more compelling than the mystery.

When I think about the archer it brings forth the idea of a single pointed focus. How good it feels when you reach that special zone as all the energy is locked onto one goal. All of that scattered energy comes together and you feel at one with yourself, complete. Focused, driven, present and alive. That's what I associate with a single focus.

And it's easy when there's something external to put that focus on, something drawing your attention to quiet all the external noise. But the message for this moon seems to be about finding that single pointed focus within yourself, the simple process of being alert, awake and in the here and now no matter what madness might be occurring in the outside world, doing what you're doing.

Sagittarius is concerned with meaning, it's the essential hero's journey. Osho said this about meaning:

'Life is in living. It is not a thing, it is a process. There is no way to attain to life except by living it, except by being alive - flowing - streaming with it. If you are seeking the meaning of life in some dogma, in some philosophy, in some theology, that is the sure way to miss life and meaning both.

Life is not somewhere waiting for you, it is happening in you. It is not in the future as a goal to be arrived at, it is herenow, this very moment - in your breathing, circulating in your blood, beating in your heart. Whatsoever you are is your life, and if you start seeking meaning somewhere else you will miss it. Man has done that for centuries.'

I like that, life is happening in you now. This moon reminds us to get into the heart of life and live it from there, but also to get ourselves moving, to not get stuck in the muck and gunk of thoughts and old patterns. So that's what the mix is for today - to get you moving and maybe break out into a one-man-dance-party just for fun.

Taurus New Moon: Easy Doing It

Perth: 18th May 12:13pm; Melbourne: 18th May 2:13pm; LA: 17th May 9:13pm
NY: 18th May 12:13am; GMT: 18th May 5:13am

The new moon is a great time to set intentions for the month ahead and make some small changes that can elevate into bigger changes over time. A chance to look at patterns and habits that you might be doing as though you were a robot... but you're not a robot, you're a human, which means you are able to change, grow and evolve.

Taurus' arena is the physical world. We're talking health, wealth, the body itself. It's time to look at what makes you fluid and bright, healthy and alive, and do that more. It's really simple, but often overlooked. The body is your temple and now is the time to pray there and listen to the guidance it gives you.

The tunes this time are just good old fashioned sweet tunes. A mix of downtempo vibes to get you into that chilled out zone where health springs eternal. Go there, recharge, take it into the world and do things well.

Mercury retrograde is upon us coinciding with the new moon. It's always my favourite time with the chance to reflect and turn the cogs of the mind backwards for a while. Sure, there's also the chance of miscommunication and confusion and the trickster changing your plans on your behalf, but wouldn't life be a dull event without all that?

The paradox is alive in this moon: slow down and keep it steady, and speed up and get things done! Sit with it though, it makes sense, and sense is what we need.

Scorpio Full Moon: The Dark in the Middle of the Tunnel

Perth: 4th May 11:42am; Melbourne: 4th May 1:42pm; LA: 3rd May 8:42pm
NY: 3rd May 11:42pm; GMT: 4th May 4:42am

The archetypal zodiac sign of Scorpio is where we get into the deepest darkest depths of our selves. If we're used to basking in the light, enjoying the good times of the sun soaked festival of life, then Scorpio can be a scary and intimidating place filled with monsters under the bed and malicious creatures of the night. But if we're willing to go there, to those dark tunnels inside of ourselves, the gold we can extract is worth more than anything else you'll find in the Universe.

Scorpio is our connection to the primordial waters, our time in the womb and our time before our own conception. Its realm deals with death and rebirth, the longer cycles and tides of our lives and the forces within us beyond our rational control. As civilised folks we'd sometimes prefer to think of ourselves as the ones in charge, calling the shots on the planet, ruling our domain. Scorpio has a way of often-not-so-gently reminding us that this isn't the case.

We've been trained out of our instincts over the course of our lives, it's part of the 21st century game, and so it is that we now have to train ourselves to again understand reality from the gut, using the neural system that goes beyond just the brain. This training is an unlearning more than a learning, but it's not enough to grab your sword and go searching for dragons, hunting down the shadows and 'overcoming' yourself. No, the process is integration not annihilation: sometimes Ariadne's thread is more powerful than the sword.

There is a flavour to truth and a flavour to untruth, and Scorpio knows the difference between these flavours more than any other sign. Some things you just know, no need for second and third thoughts, you know before the information has had time to reach the mind.

Deeper still, Scorpio is about relating on the level of true intimacy, where untruth is felt most powerfully. In Libra we negotiate contracts with a partner and we look to find a sense of balance and harmony, working with compromise and understanding. In Scorpio we're going below all that and baring witness to the sacred contracts that were already written into our DNA. The romantic notion of a soulmate is nice, but that's also the person who will show you all your patterns, habits, desires, moods and, generally, your shit. The true beauty of alchemy begins when you start turning that base material into gold.

If this all sounds a bit intense, good, you're in the right place for a Scorpio full moon. So press play and cross the River Styx to the underworld. Although there's light at the end of this tunnel, if you are focussed on it you'll miss the beauty in the darkness.

Aries New Moon: ReNewable Energy

Perth: 19th April 2:58am; Melbourne: 19th April 4:58am; LA: 18th April 11:58am
NY: 18th April 2:58pm; GMT: 18th April 7:58pm

How do you break out of a rut? How do you get passed yourself and all the ways you hold yourself back? You could analyse the situation, look at possible action plans, weigh up the pros and cons, decide on the proper and most realistic way forward...

OR

You just GO!

That's the opportunity in front of us with this Aries New Moon. Aries is that original fire, it's ignition, that first spark. It's the first sign of the zodiac, and rightfully so. The Universe wasn't planned and mapped out, it happened with a BANG, out of nothing the seed of everything appeared.

Why is the New Moon Mix called 'Thermogenesis'? As warm blooded mammals, that's what we call the process of generating heat. It's that internal fire that will be with us 'til the day that we die. Symbolically it's acting off a hunch, taking risks, making new moves, renewing your life.

Maybe for you it's about having a shot at that creative project you've been wanting to get stuck into but have found a myriad of excuses to postpone. Maybe it's about flirting with that girl/boy that you think is probably out of your league. Or deeper than this, maybe it's about asking yourself 'Who am I?' and answering with something a little more radical than usual.

Whatever it might bring for you, the Luna Tuna recommends taking action for this one. To prepare you for that action, here's a funky and upbeat moon mix designed for escalation, to burn away the cobwebs and smash through those paper walls you thought were made of bricks.

Libra Full Moon/Eclipse: Everywhere's the Middle

Perth: 4th April 8:07pm; Melbourne: 4th April 11:07pm; LA: April 4th 5:07am
NY: 4th April 8:07am;  GMT: 4th April 1:07pm

It's been quite a process bringing this moon mix to you tonight. It's been a week of computer meltdowns and mishaps, and now with the mix ready to go we've gone back to 1999 dial up speeds making the Luna Tuna miss his moon's aliveline.

Is this a product of Mercury making its way across the threshold, the start of the zodiac, a reset button for communications? Is it the interference from this blood moon? Or perhaps the stranger and more bizarre explanation: just chance.

Either way it's here, though not with the degree of Libran precision I would've liked. It arrives on the other side of the full moon, perhaps balancing out this 14° moon, just shy of the middle point of Libra. Balance within balance, the spiral universe and the degrees of reality. We might look at life and not have a sense of the harmony of it, but underneath the divine balance is always maintained.

Libra is the archetypal process of attempting to understand the other. We come into relationship with this sign, learning to see things from another's perspective and finding ways to create a melody with whomever we are with. Yet, this is the place in the zodiac where we first come across the idea of the shadow.

The first shadow: when are you compromising your inner truth in order to keep the peace? Understanding another's perspective is one thing, selling yourself out is quite another. We all know the different flavour.

And then, that mightiest of psychological phenomenon, the projection. This is a tricky area but the rule is simple - know yourself and you'll see, and therefore be able to own, your projection.

With all this in mind the blood red moon mix takes us through the many varied landscapes of relationships, and in no particular order. We go through the highs and the lows of love, as when we take the pill of bliss we know the depth of sorrow will eventually be there to accompany it.

And yet, can you imagine a world that didn't have its own ways of balancing things out that were beyond your control? What kind of place would that be? No place for a fish like me. Without pain, what would we call joy?

So press play and enjoy or bemoan, in equal measure.

Meandering on...

J.R.R. Tolkien said that not all those who wander are lost. But some are. In this world where we're told to chase our dreams, to try to achieve as much as possible, to get the best life we can imagine for ourselves, it's nice to just wander away sometimes, meander along without a care for where you need to go.

Afterall, life occurs here on Earth (and perhaps in space soon enough) and when it's all said and done, you can't take it with you. So why not drop the map for a moment and see where the rhythm takes you?

Music to Meander to is a chance to do just that.

Pisces New Moon: Us and the Ocean

Perth: 20 March 5:36pm; Melbourne: 20 March 8:36pm; LA: 20 March 2:36am
NY: 20 March 5:36am; GMT: 20 March 9:36am

This is a pretty exciting day for all the space nerds out there. We have the combination of a solar eclipse and the spring/autumn (depending on your hemisphere) equinox, the first time these 2 events have coincided since 1662 (the next one is in 2032). It's also a Super New Moon as the moon is at its perigee, which is to say that it's at its closest point to the earth in its orbit. There are only a few places on the planet that the total solar eclipse will be visible, namely Svalbard in Norway and the Faroe islands. If you're living there, and the Luna Tuna has somehow reached you, you are in for a spectacular sky treat today!

Astrologically we're in the last degree of Pisces which, of course, is the last degree of the zodiac. The sun and the moon are about to cross over that final point and start the cycle again in Aries, but before they do we have these precious moments to take stock of what has just happened, feel into it all, sit with the wide array of experiences that are yet to process, and imagine what we want this new cycle to look like.

This time of reflection is a critical piece of the puzzle. The first part is to just let all the turbulence subside so that we can see the sky's reflection in the clear still waters. Then, and only then, it's time to imagine what it is you wish to happen next. It's such a powerful question when asked from the right place: 'What do I wish to have happen?'... Take some time out of your life to sit quietly and ask this of yourself at some point today, or even in the next few weeks while this energy is still around. You might even be surprised by the answers that come because, afterall, where do our thoughts come from?

The answer to that question - the ocean, of course. Which is why the Luna Tuna has paired you up with the best ship captain he knows: Mr Scruff. He'll start you out on your sea voyage today and will be there at the end to bring you back to shore, safe and sound.

So sit back and relax and take in all the sounds of the sea.

An Ode to the Work Week

I took a break from the pull of the moon this week to cook up a little mix dedicated to the working week. We start off on a blue Monday but soon find ourselves locked into a special zone, getting the job done with a little extra bounce in our step, so long as you've plugged in your funky motivational speakers.

Apparently, we can thank Religion and Henry Ford for giving us the 5 day work week, which was reduced from 6 days in the early 20th century. Religion giving us the Judeo-Christian-double-sabath-holiday, and Mr Ford for reducing the days but holding wages steady in the 1920s. So keep that in mind next time you're engaging in bashing those two institutions (Religion and Fordism that is).

As a man who likes to laze, I support this reduction of working hours theory. But it's not just for those who love laziness - have a play with the graph on this page and see how reduction in average working hours helps the economy.

Food for thought, food for fish. Don't forget to feed them -->

Virgo Full Moon: The Pieces Know their Places

A good friend of mine once shared with me a snippet of wisdom that I've always kept. It goes like this: In order to get her ducks in a row, the mother duck need not walk around checking on all of her ducklings, corralling them into a straight line and making sure they're present and correct. No, when the mother duck wants her ducks in a row, she starts moving forward and they all fall in place.

It's a great reflection on the Virgo process that can get bogged down in the nitty gritty details of life, trying to make each part perfect before it can make anything happen. But recently I've been given a new sense of appreciation for the urge in us for perfection. Where would we be without those who aren't willing to settle for anything less than their highest vision? We'd be robbed of some of the greatest art, music, literature, film, etc of human history.

However, there's something about this moon that points far more to an inner process than an outer one. For many of us it's been a tumultuous time and we've gone through a lot of changes, pain and loss. We can just carry on like the good stoics we've been raised to be, spouting 'it's all good' and 'she'll be right' as we power through our lives. OR we can have the courage to sit with the pain and the loss, to go through the grieving process, and to truly feel what is going on inside. Like the mix says, from our hats down to our shoes.

Most of us will do anything to avoid that pain, and life provides us with infinite distractions, especially in the 21st century. If we want avoidance, we've got it at the swipe of a phone. Yet, if we have the courage to slow ourselves down, slip into the waters of ourselves and sidle up next to the pain, gently and easily, we might find there's something locked in there that we kinda need.

The Virgo Moon mix is designed to help you with that process, to get in touch with the personal and collective pain in a gentle and healing way. Press play, sit back and relax OR press play and do some yin yoga to get the body involved. Those are the prescriptions from Dr Tuna.

Yesterday, in the final phase of full moon mix preparations, I was reading the book Waking the Tiger by Peter Levine. It's a book about healing trauma and in it was the following quote from D.H. Lawrence:

'My belief is in the blood and flesh as being wiser than the intellect. The body-unconscious is where life bubbles up in us. It is how we know that we are alive, alive to the depths of our souls and in touch somewhere with the vivid reaches of the cosmos.'

Exactly, D.H., exactly.

Aquarius New Moon: The Edge of the Known

Perth: 19 Feb 7:47am;  Melbourne: 19 Feb 10:47am;  LA: 18 Feb 3:47pm
NY: 18 Feb 6:47pm;  GMT: 18 Feb 11:47pm

Today's new moon is poised delicately at 29°59' Aquarius, only moments away from entering Pisces. As I've stared at this point over the last few weeks it has revealed more and more of itself to me - the edge of the known and the beginnings of the the unknown.

Those fixed thoughts, our stubborn minds, trying to hang on to what we know for sure; like the dew drop clinging to the leaf, shaking in anticipation in the moments before it rejoins the pond from whence it came. Life is infinitely smarter than us no matter what we do to gather the safety of information, spreadsheets, master plans and bank account balances to keep ourselves from harm.

And yet, does the dew drop really experience harm as it drops into the pond again?

Bill and Ted, when they came back from their truly excellent adventure meeting some of history's most renowned and often maligned figures, brought back with them one piece of profound advice: be excellent to each other. Indeed, this moon in its auspicious position, heralding in the year of the goat, brings with it this message: to allow the emotional turbulence to settle and to embrace each other as one tribe, one race, in custody of a planet that could use some TLC.

So, my friends, press play sit back and relax and let the Luna Tuna take you to the outer edge of your consciousness only to find - still more consciousness.

Leo Full Moon: Wild Hearts Break Free

Perth: Wed Feb 4th 7:09am

How do you feel your momentum? How do you get into your zone, right?

These are the questions that begin my first Moon Mix and give birth to the Luna Tuna. At what point is it time to stop learning with the head and start doing with the heart? When is it time to just take a step into a new context, improvise, and let the chips fall where they may?

We want to enjoy life, feel the blood pulsing through our veins, feel alive and available to the many surprises out there on the big adventure. But momentum is a funny thing, a precious gift perhaps. We all know what it's like to get stuck, to lose our flow, to forget where we put our mojo.

What to do if we're in that space, if our bon fire has reduced itself to a small fragile candle, to be extinguished with the next gust of wind?

The Leo full moon invites us to step into ourselves, to become our own sun again, to feel life from the very centre of the heart. If you're like most of us, there are some serious blockages in the way, some stories that don't want to let you be in the middle of your own fire. Can you let that be and still find your way into self expression?

It's human nature to want to be safe, to want to hold on to the security that surrounds you, to cling to the walls that you've built. But as the mix tells you, everything changes. Maybe life is supporting you now to allow for some eruptions, for the fire to start to shine through once again, and you might indeed find yourselves holding hands as the walls come crumbling down.

But enough of these words, just press play and take the luna journey. They say a picture paints a thousand words, but both pictures and words are in the shadow of their older sibling: music.
